From small beginnings, the Auckland Secondary Schools Maori and Pacific Islands Cultural Festival has become the largest of its kind in the world. This event is proudly hosted by Manukau City.

With record spectator numbers of 90,000 people attending in 2009, this year promises to be a more exciting and engaging festival.

The 2010 ASB Polyfest will be held on 17-20 March at the Manukau Sports Bowl, Manukau City.

It will be a very special four days with Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate returning as host school for the 5th time. The College had the pleasure of hosting the first ever festival in 1976, so it is fitting that Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate return in 2010 to mark the 35th Anniversary of the ASB Polyfest. The theme for this years festival has a strong focus of self discovery, self belief and self empowerment:

"Its not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves" (Sir Edmund Hillary)
"Kia tū Rangatiratanga"

The festival is an iconic annual event that celebrates the pride and passion of our Maori and Pacific Island communities through cultural song, dance, speech and art. It is a place where we celebrate youth and all that they bring to the future.

As well as the 5 main stages - Maori, Cook Islands, Niue, Samoan and Tongan, there is an opportunity to view other cultures on Thursday through the Diversity Stage.

The festival begins with a Powhiri (official welcome) on Wednesday which commences at 9am at the Maori Stage. This officially opens the festival allowing for the awe-inspiring talent and competition to get underway.

It is not only local schools taking part in the festival but we are getting more and more interest from schools both nationally and internationally. Last year both Kaitaia College and Niue High School performed on the Niue Stage.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 35th Celebration of the ASB Polyfest.
